Poland, 1871 - Germany, 1919
Doctor in Political Science, theorist, socialist and feminist activist. One of her favorite mottos was "action first." Her militant activity began at the age of 15. She fled clandestinely to Zurich where she became a leader of the Polish socialist movement in exile. The revolution, socialism, freedom, and the private as political are the themes of her theoretical production. She practiced and defended political friendship between women and together with Clara Zetkin, Alexandra Kollontai and other women, they held the Conference of Socialist Women in which 59 women from 15 countries participated. It was a decisive space for the organization of the first International Women's Day, celebrated in Europe in March 1911, from which the socialist resistance to the 1st World War was organized. Rosa, she proclaimed herself against war, she fought for the emancipation of women, for the participation of working women in politics, she fought for peace and freedom in all her senses.
For being a woman, Polish, Jewish, for being a revolutionary, for being free and autonomous, Rosa Luxemburg was discriminated against, mistreated and discredited throughout her entire life and was finally murdered. Her body was thrown into the river, but her thought and her legacy are still alive.
