The Brisa Law was regulated, which establishes economic reparation for the sons and daughters of women victims of femicide.
The project was promoted by the Civil Association La casa del Encuentro with the support of the International Network of Journalists with a Gender Vision and came into effect on October 1 throughout the country.
It is equivalent to a minimum retirement income and includes comprehensive health coverage up to 21 years of age. In case they are people with disabilities, it will be for life. This law benefits “girls, boys and adolescents, whose parent and / or related parent has been prosecuted and / or convicted as the author, co-author, instigator or accomplice of the crime of homicide
of his mother ”.
The body in charge of applying and implementing the law will be the National Secretariat for Children, Adolescents and the Family (Sennaf) and payments will be made by the National Administration of Social Security (Anses). A monitoring commission was also created, made up of representatives of these two organizations and of the National Women's Institute.
This is a very important step towards the rights of girls, boys and adolescents who are victims of gender violence, since they are often made invisible. In our society it is still difficult to install the idea that the damage caused by gender violence in these children and its consequences are as serious as those suffered by their mothers.
Femicide is the maximum expression of gender violence suffered by women. It is one that has no way out and an adequate accompaniment to the sons and daughters of these women is necessary and urgent.
