Actualidad, Novedades Institucionales
This year we took great steps and developed new strategies and tools to fulfill the mission of creating a more free, just and equal society.
We carry out our task through the areas of Comprehensive Assistance, Training and Prevention, because we believe that in order to eradicate gender violence, society as a whole must be involved.
This is what we did during 2019

Through various playful and expressive techniques and reflection exercises, in the experiential workshops we accompany women in their process of self-knowledge, recovering their own resources, and rethinking their identity and their place as a woman, always aiming at the development of their potentialities, including the body beyond the word.
During the month of November we held the first edition of the "SAY WHAT YOU WANT" workshop. It is a fanzine workshop for women who attend our mutual aid groups. A fanzine is a small publication made by oneself. Four theoretical-practical meetings were held in which the search for one's own voice was carried out, and the act of breaking silence, not only inward into the safe space of the group, but also outward with the fanzine as a device.
We developed the Audio-Guide in conjunction with the Argentine Library for the Blind. Not only are women with disabilities not exempt from being victims of gender-based violence, but the obstacles they encounter are considerably greater. It is essential that they have access to information and that they do not encounter barriers when asking for help, making a report and seeking a way out of gender violence. The guide has practical advice and clear explanations on the options when making a report and is available for download on our website.
Fernanda Tarica, Director of Shalom Bait, participated in the IV World Conference of Women's Shelters, an international event that takes place every three years and where information is shared about shelter services in other countries, the practices they carry out and the relevant problems around the topic. This year it took place in Taiwan between November 5 and 8.
We invited Gioconda Batres, a Latin American expert in the treatment of survivors of sexual abuse in childhood, to carry out a free Training Day with Shalom Bait in which more than 130 professionals and students participated.
We organized an Intensive Course, given by Gioconda Batres and Ana María Marín Richmond, in which professionals from other organizations and the entire interdisciplinary professional team of Shalom Bait were trained. At the end of the course, we decided to open a new group for women survivors of childhood sexual abuse, which is currently operating in our institution.
Our goal is to provide those who work with the issue with the perspective and the necessary tools to review their own practices and improve them, and thus be able to adequately accompany women victims of gender violence and their children.
We launched the Prevention Campaign "I opened the exit door" within the framework of the 16 days of activism proposed by the UN, between 11/25, International Day for the Elimination of Gender-based Violence, and 12/10, Human Rights International. Every day we give a prevention talk in different community institutions, ending the activities with the placement of the self-adhesive pieces designed for the campaign on the doors of the women's bathrooms and on other visible doors. The main objective is to encourage those women who are going through a situation of gender violence, to identify it and to take the first step towards exiting violence.
It was created as one more tool to fulfill our mission. It is a space where you can find information on gender violence, advice, numbers and specialized centers that can be used, and the possibility of direct downloading of resources developed by the institution. You can also access our blog in which we publish articles on the subject and testimonies of women who participate in the Shalom Bait mutual aid groups. Our goal is to extend our reach so that more women have access to this information.
The app is intended for women in situations of gender violence. It is completely free and allows you to set up a help network with trusted contacts for emergency situations. It was recognized by the Legislature of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. The Declaration Act was held in the President Alfonsín Hall of the Palace of the Legislature on September 4.
We work with adolescents on gender stereotypes, sexual diversity, warning signs and behaviors of control and violence that are often interpreted as signs of love.
In the KOL we disseminate the articles that we elaborate on multiple topics related to gender violence and the mistreatment and abuse of girls, boys and adolescents, as well as institutional news, prevention campaigns and the activities that we develop. The KOL Shalom Bait -The voice of Shalom Bait- was born together with the institution and is distributed in more than 100 institutions in the Federal Capital and the Province of Buenos Aires.
We were accompanied in this activity by a survivor of gender violence, who shared her testimony during the talk. He was moving and her words went deep. This helps us enormously to give voice to this problem within the community.
